Bates Property
One of the most well known movie sets must be the Bates'
motel
and the house from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Although this 3D-model
from the movie set is a compromise in several aspects, the aim was to
make a true "real time renderable" scenery with believable atmosphere.
See the movie
in YouTube and actual model
free in 3D Warehouse.
Hame Castle
The
model
was one of the first I made with Google's free SketchUp 3D modeling
application. In the image is the second, fixed version of this model.
Both are viewable free in 3D Warehouse.
Linnanniemi
Hameenlinna Art Museum
The very first model I uploaded to the public was
the main building of the Hameenlinna Art Museum. Unfortunately, when I
later and
more skilled made this full and far more optimized version of the area,
quality standards in Google Earth was changed. Still, not in Google
Earth, but the
model
is viewable free in 3D Warehouse.
You can also make an anaglyph
journey on a friendly website.
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft
Although this three dimensional portrait may look very
detailed it still is very much a low polygon model. The head and
sunglasses are made with under one thousand polygons. See the movie
in YouTube and actual model
free in 3D Warehouse.
Colt Navy 1861
Colt Navy 1861 belongs to the series of Colt percussion
revolvers.
It contains several texture variants for each model. The
frame,
barrel, loading lever, trigger, hammer, recoil shield, stock and bullet
cylinder are separate elements. Also texture images are individual
but matching. So, by mixing these parts it is possible to make several
different looking highly realistic variants in one scene and still
keep the overall file size relatively small.
Colt Percussion Revolvers - Low
Polygon
Each Colt Percussion model partly uses common
parts. The frame, barrel, loading lever, hammer, recoil shield,
trigger guard, stock and bullet cylinder are separate but matching
elements and by mixing proper gun parts it is possible to make several
different looking variants. Belt-size Army and Navy, and
smaller Police and Pocket models are available. Also barrel
lengths are modifiable. Example models in the image above left contain
totally
4674 polygons and 568 kB texture.
See the movie
in YouTube.
Walther PPK
Like Colt Percussion 3D-models, Walther PPK has also several
texture variants. By mixing various frame, slide, grip and magazine
parts you can easily make the combination you want. The file size
varies a little depending on textures. From several different
versions, there is also well known black "James Bond PPK".
Walther PPK Pistols - Low Polygon
Like Colt Percussion 3D-models, Walther PPK has also several
texture variants. By mixing various frame, slide, grip and
magazine parts you
can easily make the combination you want. The file size varies
depending on textures. All models seen in this image contain totally
3614 polygons and 760 kB of texture. See the movie in
YouTube.
Nikon FM
Nikon FM is a legendary, completely manual 35mm SLR camera
from 70's. It was that low cost camera that even professionals could
rely on. It trained a beginner to an expert. It is also one from the
series of the VarksArt low polygon 3D Nikon FM/FE cameras.
Nikon FM/FE Cameras - Low Polygon
In the series of Nikon FM/FE cameras, each model mostly
contains shared textures and
components. Therefore, in the same scene their overall
file size is relatively small. Example
models (including all seen in the image)
contain totally 4179 polygons and 590 kB texture. See the movie
in YouTube and if you own red/cyan goggles, here you can
find anaglyph images.
Nikon Nikkor MF Lenses
The series of Nikkor manual focus lens 3D-models mainly use
shared textures. That is the reason why their overall texture file size
(without lens caps and sales packages) is only 180 kB. (For
comparison, the full-size 1680x922 version of this image itself is
already 193 kB). Lens set contains Ultra wide 15mm, 20mm and 28mm
wide
angle lenses, three different (f1.2, f1.4, f1.8) 50mm normal lenses,
85mm portrait and 105mm, 135mm and 180mm telephoto lenses. The
lenses
are of course matched for Nikon FM/FE camera 3D-models. Scales are
rotating and hoods movable. All models seen in this image contain
totally 2739 polygons and 214 kB texture.
Tropical Island
This 3D model was a presentation for a rendering application.
Its
appearance is matched for the application's default scene and it
contains some elements designed to presents various features and tools
of
the
application. Island
terrain, bungalow, bungalow interior, palms, bushes, pier, umbrella,
camera, life jacket, sandals, compass, fragment of a film and reel,
solar
panel, stone, chameleon and a newspaper. All that and more with only
1064 polygons and 2,25 MB.
Pedal Car Testing Circuit
Full, 1,250km (0,78 mile) long racing circuit with high
resolution textures. Contains all necessary components; trees, garages,
lamps, walls, hedges etc. Total file size for the textures in the
circuit
scene is 3,5
MB, and 281 kB for car's cab and broken windscreen images. See
the movie
in YouTube. Tuning instructions are here.
Wadi Rum Circuit
Short but interesting rally track circuit in a sand desert
environment. Despite of its high quality textures, the file size is
small. Less polygons, more details. Watch the screen capture
from the track in YouTube.
Virtual Alley
An urban 3D-scene that contains several ultra low poly
components
with highly realistic appearance. Also it demonstrates the function of
SetTree3D, "to the limits" optimized tree for SketchUp's 3D sceneries.
The
scene
is viewable free in 3D Warehouse.
Finnish Forest
This 3D-scene from typical Finnish mixed forest is made by
using
ultra
low polygon SetTree3D
trees. The model demonstrates how easily and
fluently SetTree3D runs even in very massive scenery. The scene
contains 35 separate trees, several bushes and some other components,
such as power line, old derelict barn and terrain.
